Pinewood Accreditation: Building Authentic Relationships

for Student Learning

info@pinewood.gr

We are so excited to share that the focus for our current U.S. re-accreditation with the Middle States Association is that of building authentic relationships for student learning

With this protocol, called Sustaining Excellence, Pinewood will be required to use strategic planning and action research as vehicles for growth and improvement in student performance and wellbeing through our focus on “authentic relationships.”

More specifically, faculty and staff will engage in action research over the next 7 years around the following statement:

“Our action research, centered around authentic relationships (or “relational learning”, a concept that we are gradually developing internally) aims at examining relationships between students, faculty, staff, leadership, colleagues, and parents/guardians in ways that intentionally enhance student learning, wellbeing and success at Pinewood.  At the same time, our understanding of relationships is not confined to human connections. Rather, the relationships between and within disciplines, relationships with the local and global communities, relationships to our new physical learning spaces, and relationships with our partner school and shared campus are equally important areas of focus for our action research. With each level of “authentic relationship” that is explored, the goal of our work is intentionality about the necessary connections between school culture and student success.”

IOANNINA FIELD TRIP G8
Ioannina, the capital of Epirus, spreads out around beautiful Lake Pamvotida. Ioannina was always multicultural, dominated mainly by Christian, Islamic, and Jewish influences. This coexistence of cultures is evident in the historic city center and compliments Pinewood’s multiculturalism. Our students enjoyed exploring the city including the Perama cave, the island of Ioannina’s lake, and the famous cave, while building strong relationships and creating invaluable memories.
